Tartan Marine Company proudly announces the latest addition to our Legacy by Tartan line – the freshly designed Legacy 36. The Legacy 36 by Tartan features favorites from the existing line while introducing a few new highlights that are all her own. The 36 continues in the Legacy style of being a classic, graceful, “down east” style cruiser with modern features and conveniences begun by designer Mark Ellis. This new design features three accommodating interiors to suit differing preferences, but all are done with the sophistication and high end finishes known only to Tartan Yachts.
The Legacy 36 features the same proven hull shape as the existing Legacy line. By pairing wide chine flats and centerline flats, the 36 planes at low speeds, boosting efficiency at comfortable running speeds. Forward, the 36 has a V shaped entry, allowing the 36 to slice through the toughest conditions, while keeping the ride dry and stable. The structure is light and fast, thanks to Tartan’s experience in advanced lamination technology and material selection. Tartan uses composites manufactured through vacuum infusion to produce a hull and deck of uncompromised strength and sensible weight savings.
“The Legacy is truly a joy to captain,” says Tim Jackett, Designer and Director of Legacy by Tartan. “The Legacy 36 will get up on a plane earlier than most other designs, making the ride more enjoyable and more efficient. This design really focuses on maneuverability and on providing a superior experience in luxury for the helmsman and guests.”
That luxury begins with the helm. The helmsman and navigator are pampered with adjustable captain’s pedestal chairs. The helm console itself is a beautifully crafted unit with ample space for all of the essentials adjacent to the tilting, wood rimmed stainless steel wheel. The mate gets matching attention incorporating a navigation table complete with pull out laptop or tablet drawer. The helm is incorporated into the enclosed helm deck – one of the most sought after features of the Legacy 42. The enclosed helm deck offers an expanse of openness, superb visibility, direct access to below deck accommodations, and great ventilation. To top it off, the aft end of the helm deck is enclosed with curved plexi glass panels and Sapelle framed sliding door, a dramatic welcome with superior appeal and functionality.
Beyond the helm deck, the accommodations continue to impress with trim and components not typically found on production yachts. The interior design selections feature either a below deck galley with two large helmdeck salon settees or galley up option with a choice of a below deck “L” shaped settee or a second private sleeping cabin. All of the interiors highlight a private cabin forward with a large, queen size island berth with ample storage in drawers, hanging lockers and shelved lockers. The head to starboard contains a full stall shower and continues the high-end, easy to maintain finishes. On the exterior, the aft self bailing cockpit is large and accommodating, providing seating on a comfortable aft settee, built for lounging or soaking up the sunshine.
An inspection of the Legacy 36 engine layout, drive line and shipboard systems reveals a well thought out plan with particular attention given to ease of access, functionality and serviceability. The standard Cummins QSB 6.7 480 HP electronically controlled engine is a marvel of modern diesel technology. Clean running and efficient the installation in the Legacy 36 features an oversized prop shaft coupled to a precise 5-axis machined, 4 blade propeller for maximum performance. The drive line is well protected by a keel/skeg that includes a cast bronze strut between the end of the skeg and the rudder tip. The engine room is also the hub for all electrical and plumbing system installations. Top of the line components, all tinned copper wiring with heat shrink terminal connections, and details like low maintenance semi rigid plumbing highlight the attention given to provide convenience and trouble free on board systems.
“The 36 fits seamlessly into our current line of Legacy Yachts. It combines the popular accommodation choices offered on the 42 with even more fuel savings as has been sought after with our 32,” states Stephanie Malbasa, owner of Tartan Marine Company.
By making the best of Tartan’s superior build practices alongside Legacy’s proven hull design concepts, all enfolded into an elegant yacht with exceptional finishes, the Legacy 36 promises to be a leader in her class.
